Hoof WF6 - Chronic Laminitis -coloured or ready to paint
Hoof WF6 - Chronic Laminitis -coloured or ready to paint
The slice is called WF6 and is a sagittal section, straight down the front of the foot to create two exact halves. The foot was from a Welsh pony who suffered years of chronic laminitis. The pony was a “easy keeper” on grass with 2 extra hard feeds a day. He had a cresty neck and a apple bottom, (a large apple shaped rump) with bulging fat deposits above his eyes. After many years of constant pain and laminitis episodes, the owner decided to euthanise.
The slice shows a typical chronic Laminitic foot with lots of growth rings in the hoof wall and a distorted toe. There is a clear laminar wedge and the hoof wall is clearly diverging away from the distal phalanx.
